Subject: Suspected malfunction on Kflop
Hi all, this my first installation of a Kflop+Kanalog controller and I really read all the precious informations already shared in the this group and on the dynomotion website but I need an opinion on how Kflop is behaving.

Take a look at this pictures I took:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DynoMotion/photos/album/2142186087/pic/list

..and tell me if this is the normal condition a Kflop should behave when started for the first time.
If I try to change the output state (in Kflop I/O) on any Home radio button I see that the Kanalog led (related to the charge pump) goes off, and the condition at the SWE pin disables the contact to GND.
Those pictures are referred to a Kflop+Kanalog unconnected at any of the JPs, powered by the USB cable with a notebook. If powered with the molex (+12 and +5V) the conditions is unchanged.

This way I can only try to connect the limit and home switches to the JP15 (OPTO IN) on Kanalog, and they seem to operate correctly.

NOTE: the first time that Kflop+Kanalog were turned on it was on a cnc machin we are updating. I was not present that first time so I suspect that the old encoder system sent some sort of an electrical shock to Kanalog (I had to replace the 2 incoming buffer chips on the Encoder inputs on JP1) and maybe also Kflop received a damage.
If I disconnect Kanalog (I have two, the repaired and a brand new one) Kflop doesn't show any of the marks that you see in the picture Kflop.jpg.

Do I have to order also a new Kflop or it's possible to correct that behavior?

The fact that the output condition on the Home row affects also the enable state of SWE made me think of a damaged circuit on Kanalog, but with the new one all remained that way so I suspect on the Kflop too.

ps: now we have installed brand new linear encoders, powered with +5V and they are working correctly, they are seen from Kmotion when connectet to JP1.

Sorry for my first post to be so long.
Thank you for any suggestion

Hi Cristian,

I don't really see anything specifically wrong.  When using Kanalog, KFLOP JP7 is used for all the communication between KFLOP and Kanalog.  There are over 200 bits of data passed back and forth between KFLOP and Kanalog every 90us.  So the pins on JP7 are not available for your use.  If you toggle the IO bits you will kill the communication between KFLOP and Kanalog and the Watchdog enable (SWE and LED) will turn off.  The Home labels are only recommendations for simple systems using KFLOP only, but Home and Limits are handled in software so they can be configured to any Input.

Also the inputs on KFLOP and the Kanalog GPIO are high impedance MOSFET inputs with megohms of input impedance.  So when not connected to anything they can float high or low.

So to answer your question: I would continue unless I found something not working

HTH
Regards
TK

Very well!
In this case we can proceed with the work in progress over the machining center and trust the two boards. I was thinking about some broken parts causing this phantom signals because I never saw the boards after unpacking but only after someone did the first connection that burnt the encoder signal buffers on JP1 (Kanalog).

You reassured me Tom, I'll return with more questions and maybe some pictures of the machine during the upgrade.
Thank you very much.
